Of-course, just as important, when we’re looking at replicating traffic off-site for consolidated backup, or disaster recovery, we need to carefully understand the bandwidth requirements of our soloution.
Although, Double-take Software uses smallest unit of capture available – “byte”, every environment is different and relies on different type of data, with varied rate of change. To be able to accurately ascertain the bandwidth requirements, we need to undertake an analysis approach. Quite frequently, we’re asked the same question by customers when designing DR or offsite replication solutions, such as:

What bandwidth will I need to replicate my data ?
Can I use my existing circuit, or will I need a dedicated one ?

The Double-take Throughput Diagnostics Utility (TDU) is a utility designed to answer majority of these questions. The utility allows us to measure and capacity plan the network requirements without actually putting any load on existing network or having to pre-purchased the equipment at the DR site.. The purpose of this tool is to generate read-only connection that collect the throughput over a pre-determined period (typically 2 weeks) and can then be analysed by a Double-take engineer.
